2017 National 4-H Western Heritage
Study Guide
The study topics chosen for the 2017 History Exam at the National 4-H Western Heritage Conference include three main areas of emphasis related to the northern plains and the Fort Benton, Montana area: Blackfeet Culture and History, The Buffalo Hunting Era, and Steamboat Travel on the Missouri River. All test questions not originating from the 4-H Western Heritage book will come from the study material listed below. The written material on the websites is mostly a quick and easy read. Some information may even be redundant from one website to another. The videos are short and provide another avenue of information. Read and view the material a little at a time and take some side notes. If something pops out as important or interesting, it will probably be the same for the folks developing the test. If taken with care, your notes will most likely provide the answers to many of the test questions.
Think about using some of the information you learn as material for a future 4-H fair exhibit. You could supplement the information with pictures you take while in Fort Benton this summer. Hopefully you can think of many ways to share what you've learned.
