The 2017 National 4-H Western Heritage Conference & Championship Shoot was held in beautiful Fort Benton, the Birthplace of Montana. Located along the banks of the Missouri River, the historical town of Fort Benton served as the perfect backdrop for learning and connecting to our western heritage.
This 2017 event set a new attendance record with 275 participants including, another record, 84 competitors. A heartfelt thank you goes to the area county Extension agents and volunteers for all their support and commitment. It took a lot of people to run 10 shooting stages for three days, offer quality educational activities, serve as interview judges for hours upon hours, grade the history exam, and lend a hand wherever needed. Everyone involved appreciated the opportunity to experience central Montana and an gain inspiration for their project back home. Thanks also to the City of Fort Benton, the museum staff, the Pikuni 4-H Club Traditional Blackfeet Dancers, our keynote speakers, Dr. Andrew Patrick Nelson and Mark Hall-Patton, as well as our incredible caterer, Chandee Bomgardner. You all make us proud. Mark your calendars for the 2018 National 4-H Western Heritage Conference and Invitational Shoot on July 31 - August 2 in Deer Lodge, MT.
